Beginnings

It is always a struggle for me to begin. Actually, to be painfully honest, it's equally hard to keep going. Therefore, if this blog turns into anything remotely long or interesting, I will be very much impressed with myself.

I'm starting to write down some of my thoughts, experiences and artistic processes on this page because I deeply believe that they are important- for me and perhaps for others as well. I used to refrain from sharing anything because I thought I had nothing important to contribute to the bigger conversation. Now I know that even though I may be ignorant of some issues and under-qualified in some respects, I am a human and my voice is of some substance, particularly if I am being thoughtful and attempting to learn.

Furthermore, every human is always growing and changing (or should be, that is), and it is therefore perfectly normal to look back at previous writings or thoughts and be appalled by one's own ignorance. In other words, hindsight is 20/20 and I now refuse to be barred from expressing myself in fear of being seen as less deep or insightful. They are sincere expressions of a soul wishing to know more, and if that isn't enough for anyone, they can feel free to hit up an encyclopedia.

A few small things about myself:

  • Russian was my first language
  • I no longer know any Russian
  • I have no geographical "home"
  • I believed in magical lands and talking toys for longer than I'd like to admit
  • I think philosophy and existential conversation is a headache worth having
  • Myers-Briggs told me I'm an ENFP
  • I think people are at their best when they recognize their smallness in the scheme of the universe
  • That's why I think being outside is really good for people
  • If I could have one super power, it would be to speak every language in the world. (Being like Spiderman would also be really cool.)
  • I believe home is where you're understood.

And there it is. I sincerely hope this blog is inspiring, encouraging and somewhat challenging to all who pass through and intensely read or skim what is written. There will be quotes and smatterings of my own writings, along with photos and artwork. I hope this develops into something of a digital sketchbook. In any case, I am excited for what it may become. I hope you are as well!

Art is whether or not there is a scream in him wanting to get out in a special way.
